 
Dr. Allen graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Immediately after graduation he joined the staff of Brickyard Animal Hospital. Two years later he became a partner in the hospital. While a veterinary student he spent several years working in a neurobiology lab, assisting in research of neurotransmitters. He was able to co-author papers for publication. He received his B. S. degree from Utah State University.
As a veterinarian, some of his areas of interest include soft-tissue surgery, the treatment of small mammals (ferrets, rabbits, rats and the like) and the medical needs of endurance racing sled dogs. In 2007 he was able to attend the Iditarod Trail Veterinarian Training Seminar in Anchorage, AK.
Dr. Allen is the 2007-08 President of the Utah Veterinary Medical Association (UVMA). He has previously served on various UVMA committees and as President of the Salt Lake Veterinary Medical Association (SLVMA). He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), UVMA, SLVMA and the International Sled Dog Veterinary Medical Association. In June 2006 he was awarded a Special Service Award by the UVMA, after donating a kidney.
He is married to Jewel, whom he met while attending USU. They are the parents of three children, Sierra, Wesley and Sabrina. As fan of all hounds, he has shaped the family pet selection, which currently consist of a Beagle and a Red Bone Coonhound.
Away from work, he enjoys off-roading, hunting, camping, boating, water skiing and fishing with his family. As a family, they also enjoy riding their horses and his children are actively involved in 4-H horse programs. He also spends time on Church responsibilities and community involvement.
